Ah, another topic I’m excited to write about! I think we’re all part of fandoms, whether it’s in books, movies, TV shows, games, etc. I love the community it creates, and that sense of closeness we have with people even though we may have never met in person.
This is going to be a hodge podge of things from my earliest fandoms to my absolutely favorites ones. 🙂
Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

My earliest fandom is…
I remember coming home from elementary school and watching this on TV. 🙂 Of course, it was English dubbed version, but I loved it all the same. A friend and I used to role play as these characters, too. 😛 I owned all the movies on VHS. I watched the final season on YouTube years ago because it was never dubbed into English. Of course I was excited when the 20th anniversary came around and find out it was being re-released and completely redone! 😮 I’m not quite caught up on season 2, but OMG, I just heard it’s getting season 3, too! *fangirls*
I distinctly remember my older brother getting books 1-4 when I was in elementary school. I didn’t start reading Harry Potter until I was in the higher elementary grades, so when the first movie released in 2011, I went with my BFF in middle school and absolutely loved it. I would have never guessed the fandom would have exploded into what it is now. I love everything that has stemmed from this fandom: amazing movies, a theme park, and so much merchandise!
My heart grows warm to know that those who loved it as kids can see how the world has expanded over the course of the years and we can enjoy (perhaps with our own kids!) Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. 🙂
Another one of my favorite fandoms is Doctor Who! I had heard so much about it, but it just didn’t seem like something that would interest me, being sci-fi and all. A couple of episodes in season 1 I wasn’t sure… (I mean, there are some episodes we just don’t talk about.) But when the 10th Doctor came around, I was in love! Everything else after that was heartbreaking, too!
Now I will admit I’m not fully caught up. I know what happens to Clara and I’ve seen the new companion, but I’m in the middle of season 9. Not sure if I can bring myself to watch the end since Clara is one of my favorite companions besides Rose.
Oh, Downton Abbey. What to even say? I watched the first two seasons on Netflix and then caught up when they were on PBS (because even a poor girl in college can get PBS even if you don’t have actual cable, lol). Then Husband and I watched them together. I cried, laughed, grew upset, etc., throughout this whole show. It was one of the first shows to introduce me into the lovely Edwardian period of British history. I’m currently rewatching it, but stopped in season 3 because I can’t bring myself to keep going, lol. If you’ve seen it, you know what season 3 brings! 😦
Assassin’s Creed is probably the game franchise I keep up with the most (despite never finishing AC:3 or playing AC:Rogue XD). I loved it from the beginning and each game keeps getting better and better. My favorite is the Ezio trilogy, followed closely by Syndicate (hello, Victorian England!) and Unity. Unity opened with new and amazing graphics and I was so happy, I might have stared at my screen open mouthed. 😮
Some fandoms I wish I had kept up with…
I watched the movies (in middle school) and then read the books (in college). I’ve also read The Silmarillion. It was incredibly dense and read like a Bible. While it was nice to delve deeper, the world Tolkien built is incredibly elaborate, far more than any fantasy series I’ve read, and truthfully, that deters me away. I mean, I loved the initial trilogy (and The Hobbit) because there were parts and info not in the movie (some are included in the extended editions of the original trilogy). Maybe one day I’ll read a bit more about this but for right now… *stares at TBR piles*
Here’s the thing about WoW… I played it before it was an MMO! I played it when it was just an RTS (real time strategy). If I remember correctly, my dad bought the games and then all the expansions. When Blizzard created the MMO, my brother and I were the first to hop on! Forget the subscription price–we gladly paid it! XD I think I played up until The Wrath of the Lich King (does this make me old?), but I’ve played a bit with the Mists of Pandaria expansion, too. I think I just couldn’t justify the monthly subscription costs. Husband is a gamer, too, so for the both of us to play, we have to double the price of all monthly subscriptions. We’ve happily played Guild Wars 2, Tera, and the graphically beautiful ArcheAge!
I think we can all agree that we just have to have merchandise from fandoms! It’s inevitable (although I think my bookshelf may be protesting under the heavy weight of my items). XD
I’ve paused buying more Harry Potter merchandise since this shelf is quite overflowing. I love being able to include Fantastic Beasts items, too. 🙂
I feel as if I’m the only one in the #bookstagram community who’s not obsessed with bookish candles, lol! These are the only ones I have from some of my favorite book series. ❤ Always Victorious is almost gone though, which means I’ll have to burn Bite and Sting, but thank goodness, The Melting Library stocks these occasionally. 🙂
How can a Sailor Moon girl not have Sailor Moon merchandise? I don’t go crazy over the blankets, posters, and replica items… My apartment could not hold all that information. The beautiful bookmarks came from LumosCoffeeRead via Etsy. As for the Funkos, I squealed at my husband (who looked at me weird) when I saw there were SM Funkos! The good thing about being an adult (sometimes) with a steady job is you can procure these little goodies without begging your parents for them, haha. Not sure my parents would have bought me these…
Whew! I didn’t realize this was such a long post! I hope you didn’t mind. Sometimes we can get carried away talking about things we love… 🙂
Don’t forget to leave your TTT, and I’ll be sure to check it out!
