May 2017 Book Haul & Wrap-up!

May was a slow month for me. I’m not complaining, trust me. A while ago, I stopped posting on my bookstagram every day, which relieved me to no end. I feel as if I can finally enjoy that community again without the pressures of competing against bigger, better accounts. Anyway, that’s it’s own story.

Because of that, I’ve read a little slower and didn’t buy as many books. Well, that isn’t really the main reason… Most of it stems from ~adulting~ (I mean, I just paid hundreds of dollars to get brand new tires for my car! Bleh!) and saving for vacation next month since I’ll be on summer break.

Two books not included here are: Our Chemical Hearts by Krystal Sutherland and Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller. I had to return those to the library. 😛

Our Chemical Hearts by Krystal Sutherland – ★★
I Believe in a Thing Called Love (ARC) by Maurene Goo – ★★★★★
Royal Bastards by Andrew Shvarts (eARC) – ★★★★
Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch – ★★ 1/2
The Names They Gave Us by Emery Lord (ARC) – ★★★★★
Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy – ★★★★
Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller – ★★★★
The Bird and the Sword by Amy Harmon – ★★★ 1/2

Man, I sure did rate most of these book highly. It’s true, though, I loved them. 🙂

Now here’s my (tiny) haul:

The Romeo Catchers (The Casquette Girls #2) by Alys Arden
A Court of Wings and Ruin (A Court of Thorns and Roses #3) by Sarah J. Maas
Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh
The Crown’s Fate (The Crown’s Game #2) by Evelyn Skye
Ramona Blue by Julie Murphy

Amazon Publishing kindly send me The Romeo Catchers to review. I haven’t read the 1st book in the series, so they even sent that one, too, but the 2nd one arrived first! 😛 I just received the 1st book a few days ago, so I can’t include it in my May haul…

I also ordered the Books-a-Million exclusive edition of ACoWaR which has some lovely fan art by Charlie Bowater and Coralie Jubénot (Merwild). ❤

Flame in the Mist was FairyLoot’s May book. I read this as an ARC, and with some sleuthing, I figured this was FL book anyway. I wasn’t wrong… 😉

I bought The Crown’s Fate and Ramona Blue at one of the local B&Ns. Truthfully, I never by from Barnes & Noble. I prefer Amazon, truth be told. But the B&N partnered with the school district I work for three days last month, a percentage of what was bought on those days (even at the cafe) went to one of three of the high school’s libraries and/or English departments. It was a fun way to buy books for yourself, something from a teacher’s library wishlist, and support a good cause. I also bought The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli for a classroom. I hope whoever reads it, enjoys!

Do we share any books in common? What was your favorite read this month?
