Have you ever heard so much about a book that you were afraid to read it because you thought it would disappoint you or vice versa? Hello, that’s me! Or have you felt indifferent about a book only to actually love it? Yep, guilty there too.
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly blog meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. You can check out the topics here!
First, I’ll start off with the books that I was so surprised I didn’t like, especially after all the hype.
Yeah. Erm… I sort of feel bad for not liking these. I actually managed to read book 2 of The Selection series but just couldn’t continue the series. As for TWatD, I was seriously sad I didn’t like it! I’m tempted to reread it, thinking I was just in a bad place but… *looks at TBR pile* Yeah. 😅 The same goes for Uprooted. That was actually a DNF for me. It sounds like something I would like and (I think) was compared to Beauty and the Beast as a retelling but… Ugh. Nope.
I really really really want to like the above books but… Nope. I just… I mean, what book has footnotes? (I’m referencing Nevernight here.) I just felt like the footnotes were info-dumping and in the end, I still didn’t know why they were even there. I DNFed Never Fade and haven’t looked back. I don’t think Alexandra Bracken is an author for me, though. Again with And I Darken… Another book I wanted to like but just… I’m not motivated to read the rest of the series despite other people liking it.
Now onto the books that were pleasant surprises!
Okay, wow, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into when I started this series. I’ve said before that TMI is not my favorite of the Shadowhunter series… I don’t even own that series but wow, The Infernal Devices, especially Clockwork Princess, made me just a sobbing mess. I tell people to try this series if they didn’t care much for TMI. 🙂
There are times when I don’t like the first book in the series, but I make myself push through and read the next book thinking it’ll be better… Sometimes I’ve been proven wrong… Others, I’ve been right! That goes for Paper and Fire, the second book in The Great Library series). I didn’t care much for Ink and Bone but wow, book 2 really blew me away.
There are definitely a lot more books that were both surprisingly disappointing and surprisingly pleasant but here are just a few of mine. I feel like I could go on… But I won’t. 😛 Don’t forget to leave your TTT posts below and I’ll be sure to check them out! 🙂
