Gosh, this means we’re actually half-way through 2018! How is that possible? I can believe it though, because it’s always 100+ degrees outside where I live. So yes, summer is NIGH and won’t disappear any time soon. 😬
To determine the best books I’ve read so far, I chose the books I rated 5 stars on Goodreads. I was going to go with 4.5 or higher, but I have more than 5 of those! But at 5 stars, there are exactly 5. Haha. The book gods are in my favor!
Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly blog meme hosted over on Goodreads. You can check out the group and topics here.
I jumped on The Illuminae Files bandwagon a little late but definitely don’t regret it. I listened to the entire series via audiobook, and because I have physically copies, I also followed along when I could. The formatting of the book is incredibly unique, and while the audiobooks are absolutely amazing, I wanted to explore the format, too. I had the chance to meet Amie and Jay back in March, and it was a lovely experience.
Both of these are fantastic diverse contemporary reads. The Hate U Gives lives up to all its hype and more. I listened to it via audiobook, and it was chilling, eye-opening, and hopeful. I read The Astonishing Color of After as an ARC and completely fell in love. It was on my radar long before it was published. I also had the chance to meet the author back in April to get the finished copy signed! I found myself in this book as a biracial person, and it was a great, heart-wrenching read.
And finally… (This should come as no surprise!)
Are you shocked to know this is in my top reads of the year? LOL You shouldn’t be! I was one of lucky people to get an ARC in my hands. I also reread the first two books in prep for REAPER and I don’t regret it. Returning to this series, reading REAPER, as forever secured Sabaa as QUEEN in my eyes. I mean, she was a favorite when I finished TORCH a couple of years ago, and REAPER was an amazing sequel. I’m so excited to see what she has in store for book 4… But I’m also equally terrified, too!
REAPER was literally everything I wanted in a sequel and more. You can read my review (and flailing) here.
What are some of your top reads for the first half of 2018? I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings!
