Oh. My. Gosh.
Guys! This graphic novel is one of the most adorable things I’ve read in my life! I’m putting it right up there with Sarah’s Scribbles because it is just that relatable and hilarious.
A huge thank you to the author and Skyhouse Publishing for giving me a free, digital copy in exchange for an honest review!
Title: Slothilda: Living the Sloth Life
Author: Dante Fabiero
Publisher: Skyhorse Publishing
Release date: October 2, 2018
Genre: Graphic novel, humor
Length: 128 pages
Synopsis: (via Goodreads) “Are you a fan of carbs, the internet, and naps? Slothilda is your spirit animal!
From former Simpsons animator Dante Fabiero comes this all-too-real comic series about an adorable little sloth who’s driven by her desire for self-improvement. Slothilda explores an inner conflict we can all relate to―the desire to succeed and grow, while paradoxically dealing with the ever present temptation to sloth.
With themes related to work, fitness, food, shopping, and pets―this book shows that you’re not the only sloth at heart.”
I think we’ve all been Slothilda at some point in our life. As for myself, I might just be her…most of my life! I have been in nearly all of the situations Slothilda puts herself in: I’m staying up late glued to my phone, eating when I say I’ll “save it for later”, and lamenting about working out. I love her adorable dog, Peanut, which I’m fairly certain is a Corgi because of that peach butt! LOL
I was actually quite surprised to discover this was a sloth, too. I’ve seen this character around before, but only briefly, and due to my brief encounters, I never had the chance to mull on what animal it was. Truthfully, I thought it was a bird! Maybe because I don’t see the signature claws of a sloth.
One of my main qualms with this book is that it’s too short! I found it a quick and easy read. Maybe not something I’d add to my personal library, and I think this would be cute as a coffee table book or maybe even something to look at while I’m waiting in line at a store. I also do not like how the synopsis includes the phrase “spirit animal” as that can come across as being offensive to Native/Indigenous peoples.
If you’re looking for a fun, humorous read, look no further than Slothilda. And please tell me I’m not the only one who does all these silly things like our main character. At least she has the motivation to work out while I just lounge on my couch most days. 🤣
You can purchase this book from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Book Depository, IndieBound, or other major booksellers.
Great review! 😍 I’ve been eyeing this book so much lately and only just realized over this past weekend that it was on netgalley, so I requested it but haven’t heard back yet. I’m hoping they approve me because it looks so freaking cute!
