It’s been a couple of months since I wrote a post like this, but I figured with the new year and a birthday, it was time! I’m trying to be better at “life updates,” so y’all don’t feel like you’re getting repetitive content but sometimes that can’t be helped. (After all, I do love me a good book blog meme. 😛 )
So… here we go! (And this post may not be completely non-bookish but… I’ll try!)
2019 is here! (And has been for about 3.5 weeks. Yes, I know.) Sometimes that’s hard to believe. 2018 was a great year for me. Sure, there were ups and downs, but I became an aunt for the 3rd time (a nephew!), bought a house, and got a new job. As I’m getting older (not that I’m old?), some of the things I’ve tried to live by include:
- You can’t make everyone happy, so don’t try. (This is really hard for me since I’m such a people pleaser!)
- Don’t stress. (Semi-easy.)
- Stop apologizing. (Not like… ever, but rather, don’t apologize for things that seem frivolous or inconsequential, especially things that are out of my control.)
There may be some others I’ve forgotten but every time I get upset or angry, I try to think about those 3 things. I’m a good listener, but suck at taking advice (even my own) for the long haul.
Most people have probably set reading goals this year, but the only goal I have in terms of books is how many I want to read in 2019, which is about 50. Last year, my goal started out at 90, but I really lost steam about half-way through the year and docked it to 80. I DNFed 2 (or 3? I really can’t remember) books, and still managed to read my goal. This year I want to focus my reading on books I already have on my shelves. I probably say that often but I want it to be true this year.
I watched one episode of Tidying Up with Marie Kondo and the next day I unhauled about 18 or so books. (I don’t think I’ll ever be able to follow her advice of keeping only 30 books, but she does have some great tips for everything else! Husband and I were really intrigued!) These books were ones I’ve had on my shelf for at least two years but lost interest in. With the way books are releasing these days (so many!), another focus of mine is not to get caught up in the hype of a book. I’ve been pretty disappointed the last few times I’ve read “hyped” books.
In terms of blogging, I was really close to closing down my blog in general last year. But then I took a break, and feel like I can come back to it with some gusto! I know I don’t have the most popular blog or the most exciting content, but this is still something I enjoy. In March, it’ll be my 3rd book blog anniversary! So I figure that’s a good milestone to celebrate.
I really want to focus on writing content I enjoy and hope others will enjoy reading. I’ve hit a whopping 451 followers to date and can’t believe people like my blog enough to subscribe or follow, lol! 😛
Lastly, my birthday is actually today!
I turn 30! When I look back at how my life was 15 years ago, sometimes it’s hard to imagine that I made it this far. When I was a teenager, I went through a dark period. Imagining that I could make it to the next day, let alone 30, was difficult for me. But I’m here! I made it! And I’m really excited for what this year has in store.
For one, I’m finally going to meet my mom’s side of the family. They all live in South Korea; my mom is the only one in America, and, really, the only one who speaks English. Tentative travel is set for July (which will be hot, as my mom likes to remind me), and I’ll be going with my other siblings. My mom is really excited for the trip. The last time she saw them was 5 years ago. Right now, she has this feeling this will be the last time she’ll see her mom alive (my grandmother, while generally healthy, has been having some back and hip problems that she can’t have surgery for because she’s too old). I’ll try not to think about that while I’m visiting but…
Traveling to Korea will be my 2nd international flight of my life. If I think about it too much, I get really anxious and nervous, but since I’m traveling with family, I think I’ll be able to manage. My only problem will be the super long flight!
Anywho, that’s enough of me babbling. I included some cute Sailor Moon gifs to break through my long paragraphs. Thanks for taking the time to read and following along on my blogging adventure. 🙂
