Look at me doing wrap-up and book haul posts two months in a row! 😱 I’m trying to be better, really I am, lol!
January was my birthday month (I turned 30! 😱), and while I thought I would go wild during the month I was surprisingly tame. Most of the books I received were gifts, from giveaways, or publishers (okay, 1 book was from a publisher 🙊). As for the wrap-up… Again fairly tame. I finished Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey last month, and while I still have Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee to play, I’m taking a break which means I have more free time to read (now whether I actually hunker down to read is the better question… 🤔).
Enough of my babble!
Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy by Cassandra Clare, et al (not picture) – ★★★ 1/2
The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi (eARC) – ★★★★1/2
Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare – ★★★★
Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare – ★★★★ 1/2
Reign of the Fallen by Sarah Glenn Marsh – ★★★★
Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli – ★★★ 1/2
Six is pretty average for me. I listened to the Shadowhunter world books via audiobook as I did with Leah on the Offbeat (thanks, work commute!).
My favorite reads for January were definitely TGW, LoS, and RotF! All were gut-wrenchingly beautiful!
Now for the book haul!
I bought the Barnes and Noble editions of both King of Scars and The Gilded Wolves, the former came with a poster and the latter with an annotated chapter by Roshani and it’s absolutely hilarious! The Collector’s Edition of Throne of Glass was a birthday gift from my best friend! 💓 Give the Dark My Love is a book I’ve had on my radar since I first heard about it. I found it a local used bookstore for $10 and had a coupon for $5 off… So I got a signed hardback from $5! Woohoo!
Kiersten White had a tour stop at a local indie bookstore for Slayer, and I couldn’t resist going. I haven’t watched an episode of Buffy, but the book sounds good regardless. I didn’t really care for White’s And I Darken trilogy (I read the first book as an eARC and didn’t care for it), but I have hopes for Slayer! Kiersten was so fun to listen too, and she’s a great storyteller. I really loved hearing how she got into publishing and her journey that’s spanned so many years.
The Kingdom of Copper by S.A. Chakraborty was a surprise book mail from Harper Voyager U.S, which is the sequel to The City of Brass. I recently started TCoB, and eeeeek, I love it so much already; I hope the remainder of the book is just as good, and it makes me so happy I have the sequel so I can dive right in!
Heartstone and Dragonshadow were books I won from a giveaway (hosted by Victoria from Victorious Pages). I’ve already read Heartstone, and I can’t wait to pick up its sequel. It’s a Pride and Prejudice retelling with dragons and I love it! 😍
