September ’19 Wrap-up and Book Haul (& Unhaul)

It’s that time again! Another month gone (😭), which means another wrap-up and book haul. Work was super busy, so I didn’t read as much as last month but I did read a decent amount–more than my usual 5-7.

First up (as always), the wrap-up!

American Royals by Katharine McGree (ARC) – ★★ 1/2
The Widow of House Rose by Diana Biller (ARC) – ★★★★
Fight or Flight by Samantha Young – ★★★★
The Light Between Worlds by Laura E. Weymouth (audiobook) – ★★
Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young (audiobook) – ★★★
The Fountains of Silence by Ruta Sepetus (ARC) – ★★★★ 1/2
Waiting for Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfrey – ★★
Geekerella by Ashley Poston – ★★★★ 1/2

My favorite and most surprising reads of the month were The Fountains of Silence and Geekerella. I was also surprised at how much I didn’t really care for The Light Between Worlds and Sky in the Deep. 🤷🏻

Just a tiny book haul this mouth!

I picked these up because I also met the authors while they were on their respective book tours. Meeting authors and getting books signed is one of my favorite thing about being a reader–it’s like meeting a celebrity (though I haven’t actually met a celebrity either…)

In last month’s post I started listing the books I unhaul, which are basically books I read and didn’t enjoy enough to keep. This month, it’s Sky in the Deep. sky in the deepYes, I am the type of person to listen to a book on audio even though I own a physical copy. I even have the pre-order goodies from pre-ordering the book but alas… It’s going into the donate/sell pile.

I think there’s a love/hate relationship about this book. People either LOVE it or hate it. It’s not that I hate the book, it just wasn’t what I thought it would be. The romance was a little lackluster despite the whole enemies-to-lovers trope. And there were some important events that I thought was just glossed over.

What was your favorite read last month? Did anything surprise you?
