Top 10 Tuesday: Books I Read Because of the Hype

TTT-Big2
A weekly blog meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This is a slightly modified version of the topic, which is “Books I Bought/Borrowed Because…”

Because I’m on several social media platforms I follow so many amazing bookworms, so I succumb to the “hype” of a lot of books. Some had turned out well… Others not so much.

I’m just going to throw this out there that these are books I read because of their hype but ended up not really caring enough to continue the series or only read the next book and gave up completely. Wilder Girls doesn’t count obviously since it’s a standalone. I haven’t written off the author completely, as I have an ARC of her next book, Burn Our Bodies Down.

Because I didn’t care for the initial book I read by the author, I’ve been hesitate to read the authors other books. Ahdieh has been a hit or miss for me (even though I’m listening to The Beautiful right now). I think Bracken is a completely miss for me since I also read Passenger but didn’t like it enough to continue the series or it faded into the background.

The Mortal Instruments was pretty average for me (though if I remember correctly, the latter books were better), which made me hesitate to start The Infernal Devices. So yes, I fell into the “hype” trap and I’m really glad I did. I count this series as one of the my favorite in the Shadowhunter universe (but The Dark Artifices). But with Chain of Gold out, who knows what will happen? 😛

I’m pretty sure The Kiss Quotient reignited by love for the romance genre, especially for the growing new adult market. I’ve read several romance books following this one, and very few have been able to top how much I love The Kiss Quotient (though its sequel, The Bride Test, is just as a cute and adorable in a different way).

Yes, I did give into the hype and read An Ember in the Ashes and have fallen so love with this series. I recommend to everyone. Can you believe the final book, A Sky Beyond the Storm, will be out at the end of the year? How will I be able to say goodbye to these beloved characters? My heart hurts just thinking about it. 😦

I quickly read A Curse So Dark and Lonely when I discovered the author was going to be nearby (and by “nearby” I mean a 3.5 hour car ride, LOL). I loved it so much! I haven’t read the sequel yet but it centers around one of the side characters whom I’ve excited to learn more about.

Leave your TTT posts in the comments and I’ll be sure to check it out! 🙂

I love how you tweaked this prompt (I just outright did next week’s prompt accidentally 😂)

I definitely read An Ember in the Ashes and A Curse so Dark and Lonely because of the hype! (although I did enjoy them as well!) I’m glad you gave Infernal Devices a try, I like it a lot more than Mortal Instruments!
