‘Waiting on’ Wednesday: June ’20 Releases

‘Waiting on’ Wednesday (WoW) is a book blog meme hosted by Breaking the Spine. It’s really easy to participate: all you have to do is feature upcoming books you’re excited about–it doesn’t necessarily have to release the next month. But for my own sanity, I try to feature books month-by-month.

I know the pandemic as affected a lot of book releases in June and July, but I’m fairly certain all the ones on this list actually release in June! (But feel free to correct me if I’m wrong!)

June 2:

I have an ARC of A Song of Wraiths and Ruin that I picked up from the publisher’s booth when I attended the North Texas Teen Book Con in March. I started it just a few days ago, and I’m really intrigued by the premise. I hope it’s good because that cover is beautiful!

The Court of Miracles immediately intrigued me since it has Six of Crows as a comp title, the other one is Les Misérables (but I’ve never read that book though I’ve seen the Masterpiece PBS drama, LOL). I find myself enjoying a lot of books with Six of Crows as a comp title, so I look forward to reading this book!

My Calamity Jane is the final book in the Lady Janies series. I really enjoyed the first book and liked the second book well enough to continue the series. All these books have a high level of comedy and I listen to them on audiobook and they’ve just been so fun!

June 16:

I’ve been excited about this book since the author announced the acquisition on Twitter. I am absolutely in love with this cover, and I’m so happy to see a plus-sized Korean model on the cover. It was literally the one thing I really hoped the book cover would have, and I’m glad we got it! I’m going to leave the synopsis below so y’all can check it out and decide if you want to add it to your TBR:

Skye Shin has heard it all. Fat girls shouldn’t dance. Wear bright colors. Shouldn’t call attention to themselves. But Skye dreams of joining the glittering world of K-Pop, and to do that, she’s about to break all the rules that society, the media, and even her own mother, have set for girls like her.

She’ll challenge thousands of other performers in an internationally televised competition looking for the next K-pop star, and she’ll do it better than anyone else.

When Skye nails her audition, she’s immediately swept into a whirlwind of countless practices, shocking performances, and the drama that comes with reality TV. What she doesn’t count on are the highly fat-phobic beauty standards of the Korean pop entertainment industry, her sudden media fame and scrutiny, or the sparks that soon fly with her fellow competitor, Henry Cho.

But Skye has her sights on becoming the world’s first plus-sized K-pop star, and that means winning the competition—without losing herself.

There is a pre-order campaign for I’ll Be the One. You can check it out and submit your receipt here. (You may have to scroll a tiny bit to find the information.)

June 23:

Such varying genres, lol. I love it all! Can’t wait to hold these books in my hands!

If you’ve pre-ordered Forest of Souls, you can submit your receipt for some pre-order goodies by checking out the info from the author’s Tweet.

Last but not least, we have this book releasing on June 30:

I have an eARC of this book and I’ve been way excited about it! I can’t wait to dive into it and I just hope it’s as good as the synopsis sounds! It looks like a great sci-fi.

I also wanted to highlight two non-YA books that are releasing in June:

They release June 23 and June 30, respectively. I really adored Hibbert’s Get a Life, Chloe Brown and this is a companion novel to that about one of the main character’s sisters. The Empire of Gold is the third and final book of the Daevabad trilogy.

What books are you looking forward to in June? Leave them in the comments below! 🙂
