The first month of 2021 is over! January was a fun month for me simply because it was my birthday, and I like to celebrate all month long! 😛 In terms of a reading month, it was slow. After a long holiday break, I returned to work and it took a bit to get back into the routine.
I also “beat” Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and started playing Overcooked! 2 on Nintendo Switch, so my time hasn’t wholly been dedicated to books, hehe.
As always we have the wrap-up:
A Sky Beyond the Storm (An Ember in the Ashes #4) by Sabaa Tahir – ★★★★★
You Have a Match by Emma Lord (eARC) – ★★★★
Crownchasers (Crownchasers #1) by Rebecca Coffindaffer (audiobook) – ★★★★
City of the Uncommon Thief by Lynne Bertrand (eARC, DNF) – ★
My Calamity Jane (My Lady Janies #3) by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows (audiobook) – ★★★ 1/2
In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren – ★★★ 1/2
I surprised myself with my first DNF of the year, let alone so early in the year! I really wanted to like City of the Uncommon Thief, but even at halfway through, I had no idea what was happening or what the main plot of the book was. It was definitely a struggle to continue reading despite actual wanting to know and find out something.
Of course I started the book by finishing the final book in a series I absolutely love. I basically cried my way through the last 40 pages or so … So yeah. I said I was going to write a review for it, but to be honest, it’s been difficult. How do you write a review of the final book of one your favorite series? Ugh.
I actually have a book haul this month! January was my birthday month, so I felt a bit ~extravagant~ purchasing books because I kept saying they’re birthday gifts, LOL. (Surely I’m not the only one who does this?)
I read Wicked and the Wallflower in December, and I knew I had to have the books for my personal library… So… ta-da! Now I do! The cover of Happily Ever Afters immediately caught my attention. It looks fun and light-hearted, so I’m excited to dive into that. I pre-ordered We Free the Stars from the author’s local indie, so I could get the art print and a signed copy. I’m currently re-reading We Hunt the Flame, so I can dive into WFtS soon after!
I’m really excited for the year and all the books I’ll read. I never have a set TBR because I fluctuate a bit between a mood reader and whatever catches my fancy.
If you post a monthly wrap-up and haul on your blog, link it in the comments and I’ll be sure to check it out!
