Sooooo… I haven’t written one of these since January. Now that we’re halfway through the year, I figured another non-bookish life update was warranted.
*goes back to January’s post to see what needs to be updated*
Wow, how is it already November? I felt like these last few weeks have gone by so so so quickly–almost like I don’t have a moment to stop and breathe. Well, I know this isn’t a book review or anything book-related, but that’s only because I wanted to update y’all on my life! I mean, people care about that, right? Or do y’all just want everything book-related? Well… too late!
I am always and forever late posting recaps of these events, but hey, something is better than nothing, right?! (Or maybe that’s what I keep telling myself? Haha.)
Anyway! Oklahoma hosted its very first teen book con (festival?!) a few weeks ago, and so of course I was crazy excited! And then even more so when Maggie Stiefvater’s book tour for All the Crooked Saints would stop at the con! Was it possible that I could meet one of my favorite authors for the second time in the same year? The answer was yes! Haha.
Okay, I’ve never done one of these “news”-like posts, but OMG, how can I even resist when it includes two of my favorite authors?! I died yesterday! Don’t ask me how I’m still alive… I don’t know either.

This is the second year a row that I’ve had the change to attend the North Texas Teen Book Festival in Irving, TX, which is a small suburb of the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. I enjoy the DFW area every time I visit. The past two years I’ve managed to find a hotel mere minutes away from where the convention is actually held, which makes me happy. 🙂
This year, the festival had over 80 (!!!) MG and YA authors, and I was overjoyed to see that many authors I admired would be there! Another great thing about the festival this year is that they had publishing houses there, so that means Epic Reads, Fierce Reads, and Penguin’s First in Line was also there. It was such a fun experience, and I felt like a true book blogger because I managed to snag some ARCs from the tables. 🙂
Ahhhhh! I’m am beyond excited to tell you all I’m participating in Book Madness 2017! It’s such a honor to participate with other top bloggers. 🙂 ❤
Book Madness is hosted by Maggie Ann Martin, and it’s a fun series where a variety of BookTubers, bookstagrammers, and bloggers pick their favorite fictional character and then make a video or blog post explaining why the character is awesome. Viewers and subscribers are encouraged to vote to keep us moving through the competition. (So if you vote for my favorite character, I’ll move forward!) You can find the link to vote at the end of this post!
You’ll also have a chance to win awesome prizes along the way, such as 2017 ARCs from debut authors, bookish trinkets, or even Amazon gift cards, and the winning blogger will win a prize as well! How awesome!
So what character did I choose? Oh my heavens, did I surprise you all?
So a couple of weeks ago, I found out that Loot Crate wanted fans to put together their very own “dream crate,” its own theme, items, etc., and let me just say I was so excited to be approached & incredibly excited to put together a post!
If you don’t know anything about LootCrate, it’s a monthly subscription box. Like other sub boxes, it’s based around a theme and filled with various fandom items particular to that theme. Here’s a list of their past boxes and the items. So you can see it varies from crate to crate. What’s also great about LootCrate is that there are a variety of crates to choose from, whether you like gaming, anime, things for your pets, or just a crate filled with items to wear. Not only does LootCrate have particular crates but there are also fandom particular crates, too! This past November, they launched the Wizarding World Crate, which I bought, and loved! (I’ll post about that…eventually, haha!) But there’s also a Firefly Crate (Husband would love that) and a Sanrio crate (might need to get that for myself–after all, my birthday’s next month!)
Anyway, here’s the theme for my crate: “Fantasy Girl Power” and I’ve filled with a myriad of items I would absolutely love to receive or get for myself!
I felt so accomplished this past week because I wrote and scheduled a bunch of blog posts. I reached 50k words for November’s NaNoWriMo, and I’m finally receiving some feedback from my beta readers about my book! It’s so thrilling and makes me all giddy inside when people tell me they love my story even though it’s in its baby stage.
Thanksgiving came and went, and now Christmas is slowly creeping up on us which also means a new year! Oh heavens, how did that all happen so quickly? Continue reading
Normally, I am extremely prepared and ready to go when it comes to posting on my blog but this weekend, I was hit with PMS and seriously, I was down for the count! I was rather productive on Saturday morning but then it started so all I did was lay in bed (or the couch), read, edit my book a bit, and then I also ended up skipping church on Sunday to…lay in bed and read. ^_^’
So you’d think I would be going a great job, getting through my TBR for August. Alas, that is not the case. I skimmed through Netgalley a few weeks ago and “wished” for a book, was approved, and so I started reading it to end up not even finishing it (or liking it). That took up a few days. Then I have an author friend who wants me to take a look at the sequel to her first book but I need to read the 1st book, so I’ve been going back and forth with that and An Ember in the Ashes.
But I have some exciting news!
Oh. My. Gosh. Why the heck did I wait until JUST NOW to read this book? I’m ashamed of myself, I really am. 😦
Warning: this review may contain a lot of squealing, fangirling, and gifs. You have been warned. 😀
