ARC Review: “A Sweet Mess” by Jayci Lee

Thanks to St. Martin’s Press for giving me a free digital copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was a quick and easy read that I managed to finish with a day. I was eager to read a sexier NA romance because the two I’ve read previously simply failed to deliver there. While yes, this definitely was a bit more hot and heavy than the others, I still wanted more.

Review: “Girl in Pieces” by Kathleen Glasgow

Wow. Where do I even begin reviewing a book like this?

I self-harmed for a little over 5 years so I’m fairly open-minded when it comes to book with characters who also self-harm. The truth is there aren’t many of them but the ones I’ve read are quite good. Girl in Pieces is more than good. It’s harsh, brutal, raw, honest, and powerful. Sometimes I found it overwhelming, sometimes cliché, but it’s always nice to know you aren’t alone–that you were never alone in your pain. Continue reading

ARC Review: “The Assassin Game” by Kirsty McKay

Thank you to Netgalley and SOURCEBOOKS Fire for giving me a free copy in exchange for an honest review!

I know I say that contemporary YA novels aren’t my thing, but I’ve recently read a few that I really enjoyed and I thought I’d give this one a go. The cover makes it look creepy and thrilling. While it would fall under the “thriller” category, the whole concept lacked a few things for me to give it more than a 3 star or better than average rating.

Review: “When We Collided” by Emery Lord

Well, here I go with another contemporary YA book that I liked. I must be picking up a lot of good ones lately or something because wow! This book!

There’s been a trend in YA recently about writing believable characters with mental illnesses. I found myself falling in love with this book. I laughed out loud, I teared up, and I closed the book with such satisfaction, I didn’t want it to end. Not many books do that to me but I’m so glad this was one of them.

Review: “Wink Poppy Midnight” by April Genevieve Tucholke

I picked this book up on a whim. I’ve seen it floating around the book community on Instagram. The cover is gorgeous but the synopsis just sounded meh to me. When I saw the book at the local library, I thought “Why not?” After all, it’s a rather short read and since work has been blessedly slow, I thought I’d go ahead and give it a read, knowing it wouldn’t take me too long.

Bad decision. A very bad decision.

Spoiler-free review below but possible ranting. 🙂

Late May book haul!

Ah, okay, so I should really start making monthly book hauls. I tell myself not to buy any more books but it’s hard to resist going into any store, seeing something you want, and then not buy it. Besides…it’s there…and it’s 50% off? I mean, c’mon. We all know I love deals. 😀 But even more so when it comes to books!

One of my favorite book stores (Half-Price Books) was having a Memorial Day sale of 20% off your entire purchase. Hastings also had a Memorial Day sale where if you buy 1 used book, you got 2 for $1 each. I mean, I couldn’t resist that really and I just found some great deals! It was a great weekend for books! 🙂 (I mean, what’s not a great weekend for books, really?)
