Non-bookish post #7: My Dream Crate!

So a couple of weeks ago, I found out that Loot Crate wanted fans to put together their very own “dream crate,” its own theme, items, etc., and let me just say I was so excited to be approached & incredibly excited to put together a post!

If you don’t know anything about LootCrate, it’s a monthly subscription box. Like other sub boxes, it’s based around a theme and filled with various fandom items particular to that theme. Here’s a list of their past boxes and the items. So you can see it varies from crate to crate. What’s also great about LootCrate is that there are a variety of crates to choose from, whether you like gaming, anime, things for your pets, or just a crate filled with items to wear. Not only does LootCrate have particular crates but there are also fandom particular crates, too! This past November, they launched the Wizarding World Crate, which I bought, and loved! (I’ll post about that…eventually, haha!) But there’s also a Firefly Crate (Husband would love that) and a Sanrio crate (might need to get that for myself–after all, my birthday’s next month!)

Anyway, here’s the theme for my crate: “Fantasy Girl Power” and I’ve filled with a myriad of items I would absolutely love to receive or get for myself!

Review: “Furthermore” by Tahereh Mafi

Here’s the thing: I don’t read a lot of middle grade. It isn’t really my thing but I’ve come to appreciate the differences between each genre of literature, especially in age gap genres like MG, YA, and NA (I still struggle with NA a bit but that’s another story).

When Mafi released Furthermore, I was a little hesitant about it. Although it sounded wonderful, I wasn’t sure what to make of it. I’ve only read the 1st book in the “Shatter Me” series and while I enjoyed it, it’s not something I’ve made a priority on my TBR pile. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy this book but… Not as much as I hoped. I wouldn’t necessarily put it along with “overhyped books” but let’s just say I was fairly underwhemled.

Review: “A Court of Thorns & Roses” by Sarah J. Maas

I did! I caved in (like usually) and read this incredibly hyped book that I’ve heard nothing but amaze-balls things about!

And guess what?

I liked it but it didn’t live up to the hype. 😦 Sure, it was great! Maas writes a great story, don’t get me wrong! I love her Throne of Glass series so to read another series by her, of course I was excited! But to be honest, I wasn’t blown away by this book and for me, it didn’t live up to the hype. *hides under the table*

Review: “The Crown’s Game” by Evelyn Syke

Dude, I was so excited when this book came out. I didn’t do a “most anticipated releases” for the month of May so I skipped over a few books…

But I was too poor to go out and buy it.

I love my local library for having it. ❤ (I’ve really been meaning to make a blog post just about the wonderfulness of the library system where I live but I’ve been distracted.)

Late May book haul!

Ah, okay, so I should really start making monthly book hauls. I tell myself not to buy any more books but it’s hard to resist going into any store, seeing something you want, and then not buy it. Besides…it’s there…and it’s 50% off? I mean, c’mon. We all know I love deals. 😀 But even more so when it comes to books!

One of my favorite book stores (Half-Price Books) was having a Memorial Day sale of 20% off your entire purchase. Hastings also had a Memorial Day sale where if you buy 1 used book, you got 2 for $1 each. I mean, I couldn’t resist that really and I just found some great deals! It was a great weekend for books! 🙂 (I mean, what’s not a great weekend for books, really?)

Review: “Legend of Rhyme” series, Books 1 – 3

A few months ago, I requested a middle grade fantasy novel on Netgalley called Elora of Stone, book 1 in the Legend of Rhyme series. I was contacted a few days later by an agent who gave me access to not only book 1 but also books 2 & 3! I was so pleased at the opportunity.

I wrote all my reviews on Goodreads but since I finished the books I was given, I decided to write a full (spoiler-free) review here. I haven’t read a middle grade novel in a very long time and this series was fun and quick to read.

Also, did I mention there are unicorns?

Reviews: “The Wrath & the Dawn” by Renee Ahdieh & “First & Then” by Emma Mills

Boom boom! Knocking these hyped books off my reading list one by one! 🙂 Lots of thanks to my local library (they deserve a blog post of their own soon) for also providing audiobooks. I never knew how much I could listen to on a drive to and from work. XD

Today I review the very hyped The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh, whose sequel releases on the 26th of this month and First & Then by Emma Mills, which claims to be  Pride and Prejudice meets “Friday Night Lights” thing (can’t say this is true because I’ve never watched “Friday Night Lights” so…)

Keep reading for spoiler-free reviews! 🙂
