Review: “Ninth House” by Leigh Bardugo

Well, it is with a heavy heart that I say I did not like this book as much as I wanted to. That’s fine, of course. I mean, this book is so perfectly Leigh I love it in that regard. I knew it would be a dark Gothic contemporary fantasy (is that a genre? I’m not sure “urban fantasy” can be used here but correct me if I’m wrong), and Leigh never shied away from saying that Ninth House deals and goes down some very dark avenues (see this Tweet).

This book also has a lot of content warnings, too. I found this list to be a good one.

Review: “Wonder Woman: Warbringer” by Leigh Bardugo

I’ll be honest with you–I was afraid I wouldn’t like this book because I’m too familiar with Leigh writing the Grishaverse. While I love Wonder Woman and Leigh herself, I wasn’t sure how to bring the two together. Well, I’m happy to report that I really enjoyed this book! More than I thought I would actually, but I’m almost not too surprised because… Well, it’s Leigh! She’s a great storyteller!

Review: “The Language of Thorns” by Leigh Bardugo

I’m not one for fairytales. It’s true. And what might be worse yet is that I don’t read a lot of short stories because I always feel as if they’re incomplete. Perhaps I’m still bitter about Three Sides of a Heart… Who knows. 😂

But I knew diving into another book by Leigh wouldn’t disappoint. I was right. Oh, I was so very right. Not only is the physical book absolutely beautiful, but the stories are magical, powerful, with just a touch of darkness.

Top 5 Wednesday: Authors I Want to Write Like

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly blog meme started on Goodreads. You can check out the group and keep an eye out for the topics here.

I find this topic broad and very subjective, obviously, so I figure I’d take a look at some of my favorite authors in a variety of genres and discuss why I like them and what I admire about them, not just their writing skills. Let’s see how this goes. 😉

T5W: Books I’ve Read Because of #bookstagram

I’ve always been an avid reader, but I wasn’t much of a collector. That is, until I joined the lovely community of readers on Instagram (also commonly referred to as #bookstagram and #bookstagrammers). I joined over 2 years ago, and wow, it’s been a great way to connect with other readers and to see how seriously talented photographers fellow bibliophiles are!

Anyway, I thought this was a fun topic because there are so many books I’ve picked up since I’ve seen them on Instagram–definitely some I would have never bothered to read otherwise!

T5W is a Goodreads group. You can check out the topics or join here.

Top Ten Tuesday: New-to-Me Authors I Read for the First Time in 2016

Yay! So I’m back to regular blogging now that NaNoWriMo is over! I’m currently working on a non-bookish post about my progress with NaNoWriMo and other things so keep an eye out for that soon!

Gosh, guys, I can’t believe it’s December already! I know people say that all the time but seriously, it’s almost Christmas! This makes me both excited and shocked that 2016 went by so quickly. But with the passing of December also comes January and… My birthday! I’ll be 28 in a little over a month. That’s crazy to think about to.

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
