If you’re craving an immersive fantasy, I suggest you pick up the first book in this series, The Girl of Fire and Thorns. I listened to this trilogy via audiobook, and it was an enjoyable read. I admit I was hesitant to read Rae Carson again, as I had previously read her Gold Seer Trilogy. Though I enjoyed that trilogy, it wasn’t enough to endear me to read Carson’s earlier works. However, with some motivation from various online friends, I took the plunge.

My goal is to actually keep with my blog despite the whirlwind of returning to work, but… I don’t think that’s going to happen, unfortunately. However, I’ll try my hardest!
I had a few friends via Instagram tell me to read this book. While I initially liked Carson’s latest series, the books did slowly decrease in star rating with each book I read. My best friend is nearly done with this series and says she enjoys them, so I thought I’d give it a go, too. 🙂

Well… Okay. I don’t know what to say. I liked this series, but I don’t think I love this series. I think of the 3 books, the 2nd book, Like a River Glorious is my favorite. I listened to the first two books via audiobook, but this one wasn’t available from the Overdrive app and I happened to see it while perusing the shelves not too long ago. So I snatched it up.

I started Walk on Earth a Stranger as an audiobook, so I figured I’d continue the rest of the series that way. While I liked the first book, I’m a bit indifferent toward the sequel.

This book was a pleasant surprise. While I like historical fiction, I stick mainly to historical fiction that takes place in Britain, so to dive into this (audio)book which takes place during the late 1840s Gold Rush America, I was a bit…hesitant to say the least. It has a bit of a western feel to it as well. But the characters surprised me, and when I finished, I was quite excited to start the next one (but I haven’t yet because I seriously have a TBR for fall–shocker!).
