ARC Review: “Courting Darkness” by Robin LaFevers

His Fair Assassin trilogy is a series that got better with each book. I can’t help but scream “Assassin nuns!” when people say they want to read something “different.” When the author announced there would be two more books in the series, I was excited. While Courting Darkness was good, there were a variety of things I didn’t care for in the book, which left me wondering if I should pretend the series is really just a trilogy.

I picked up this ARC from my local indie bookstore, where they have a “buy a book, get a book” (normally an ARC) thing going on. I had hoped to review it before its release date but unfortunately, time slipped away from me.

I didn’t quite like this as much as the others, but it was still enjoyable. I initially listened to this via audiobook, but then couldn’t renew it from the library. Good thing I actually have a physical copy of the book. (I feel like that’s the story of my life for the past two years, haha.)

Oh my word! I think I have found another favorite series. (Right, yes, so I know I’m only on book 2 but did you see there’s going to be a book 4 and 5?! Both of which are untitled as of right now but I’m impatiently waiting on the edge of my seat!)

Right, so. I pulled this book out of my TBR jar because my bookshelves are currently out of control with books I haven’t read (surprise, surprise!). I’ve heard good things about this series so I was excited to dive in.

Late May book haul!

Ah, okay, so I should really start making monthly book hauls. I tell myself not to buy any more books but it’s hard to resist going into any store, seeing something you want, and then not buy it. Besides…it’s there…and it’s 50% off? I mean, c’mon. We all know I love deals. 😀 But even more so when it comes to books!

One of my favorite book stores (Half-Price Books) was having a Memorial Day sale of 20% off your entire purchase. Hastings also had a Memorial Day sale where if you buy 1 used book, you got 2 for $1 each. I mean, I couldn’t resist that really and I just found some great deals! It was a great weekend for books! 🙂 (I mean, what’s not a great weekend for books, really?)
