A huge thanks to Disney-Hyperion for giving me a free digital copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I always run at a book that is basically Beauty & the Beast so of course this one was no exception.

Y’all, let me be honest for a second. I was very excited about this book. Maniscalco’s Stalking Jack the Ripper series was a rollercoaster for me (and by that I mean, I like the series as a whole but not all the books were absolute gems for me). But I love historical fiction, and the fact that Maniscalco is releasing a historical fantasy excited me!
Alas.

I think I said this before, but I’m actually catching up with these digital ARCs. It makes me so happy to review them on NetGalley, too, and have them gone from my shelf, lol.

I actually finished this book a few weeks ago, but I waited to post the review but I had a bunch of thoughts floating around in my head regarding it. The other day I finally wrote down my thoughts, though they still seem a bit jumbled. I hope the review still makes sense!
Continue readingWell, it looks like I’ll unhaul this series now that I’ve finished. Sadly, I thought the second and final book would redeem the series, but that wasn’t the case.
After finishing Enchantée, I wasn’t sure how quickly I wanted to dive back into another historical fiction book involving France. An Affair of Poisons takes places a hundred or so years before the events of the French Revolution, where kings and nobles are still on top. The events of this book are based on real events, too. (I happened to briefly look up the actual Affair of Poison a few days before I started this book, which I found a bit ironic.)
Okay, you didn’t come to listen to me babble.
A huge thanks to Page Street Publishing and NetGalley for giving me a free, digital copy in exchange for an honest review. This review may contain possible spoilers.
