WWW Wednesday #9

WWW Wednesday is a weekly blog meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words. In this post I will answer the following questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

I haven’t written one of these since August. 😮 So…yeah.

What are you currently reading?

To be honest my reading is really all over the place. I put Glass Sword on hold. I wanted to physically finish reading the book. The last time I picked it up was via audiobook and I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. The second read is going better but… Just slowly.

In the audiobook department, I started Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi, which tells the story of two young people who connect through texting. So far I’m finding the male narrator really monotone, but I like Sam as a character. As for Penny, I’m still trying to figure her out.

In terms of eARCs I’m behind. (But really, what’s new?) I know the purpose of ARCs to get early hype going but it’s been so hard lately. I think the screens are starting to get to my eyes, giving me headaches, so it’s hard to sit and read them for long periods of time. Anyway, pardon my complaining but I am reading a really good historical fantasy Empress of All Seasons by Emika Jean. It’s about a half-human, half-yokai young woman who enters a competition with other girls to become the new Empress. It’s been fun to read, and neat to point out these double-standards, not only as a woman, but also as a woman in an East Asian culture where gender roles are pretty well-defined and straying from them is frowned upon.

Lastly, I checked out Phoenix Unbound by Grace Draven from my local library. It’s not YA, but is high fantasy and has a romance-focus. I heard it has the enemies-to-lover trope, along with a slow burn, which are my two favorite tropes of all times so I immediately knew I had to read this book. I’m really enjoying it so far, though there are some minor details I have problems with. Anyway, it’s too early to judge the book as a whole so… 🙂

What did you recently finish reading?

The two big ones that come to my head are…

I rated both of these 4 stars. I half-read, half-listened to Strange the Dreamer on audiobook (the narrator is Steve West, who also narrates Elias from An Ember in the Ashes, so… you know *swoon*). KoA was definitely a slow read for me. I wanted to enjoy it since it’s the finale but at the same time, I thought the book was slow. You can read my full review of the book here.

What do you think you’ll read next?

That’s sort of up in the air. I have a general idea but… *shrugs* There are a few series finales out or coming out where I want to reread the first few books because it’s been so long since I’ve read them, and want to remember e v e r y t h i n g before I go into the finale. (Am I the only one who does this? XD)

But there are two major books I want to read since I’m afraid I’ll get spoiled via bookish social media.

Surprised? I guess this means I don’t have to suffer through cliffhangers and waiting for the sequels to release since the trilogy is finally complete (as of Queen of Air and Darkness‘s book birthday yesterday 😉 ).

Anywho, time to scramble off and do a bunch of reading. 😛 But please, tell me what you’re reading and how you’re liking (or not liking) it!
