I imagine this has something to do with Valentine’s Day on Thursday, but I’m not complaining. Any time I get to gush about my favorite literary couples… I’m down!
Warning: This post may contain spoilers if you haven’t read the books! Read at your own risk!
Of course, I would be a horrible fangirl if I don’t mention by truest of true OTPs: Arin and Kestrel. I love how they challenge each other intellectually, and how their love for each other makes them question their intentions. It’s a wonderfully beautiful story, filled with Marie’s exquisite prose, making you feel every single emotion you ever thought possible.
I’m including two of my favorite couples from this series: Elias and Laia and Helene and Avitas. Reaper was pure torture for my soul, and I loved every minute of it. I can’t wait to see what Sabaa will do with these characters but I just need everyone (okay, not everyone) to be happy and alive when this series comes to an end.
Look, I see all you Will and Tessa shippers out there. 👀 But I really did struggle to like Will, and instantly fell in love with Jem, that precious cinnamon roll of a boy. So I’m parading them as one of my favorite from The Infernal Devices series, and was so glad to see them (in bursts) in The Dark Artifices. Also, the epilogue in Clockwork Princess made me cry my eyes out, so there’s that.
Y’all know I’m a sucker for forbidden romances so Emma and Julian have to be included in this list. Lord of Shadows had me reeling, and I can’t imagine what’s going to happen in Queen of Air and Darkness.
Personally, I ship everyone in this series, but none more so than Nina and Matthias. And if you ask me if I’m over the ending of Crooked Kingdom, the answer is no. But I haven’t read King of Scars yet so… We’ll see how that goes. 🙂
I definitely did not expect to fall head over heels in love with Chaol and Yrene as a couple. I’ve been…indifferent to the couples throughout this series, but if there’s a solid pair I’m betting on, it’s always gonna be Chaol and Yrene.
Yrene did not put up with any of Chaol’s crap, and it was such fun to read. The way she fell in love with him, too… Totally worth it. And goodness that woman is an absolute powerhouse. Without her… Would Kingdom of Ash even happened? You answer me!
I was rooting for Lord Carlston and Lady Helen from the very beginning, but the events of The Dark Days Pact solidified that pairing like no other. I really need to get on the ball and read the third and final book, but I really want to reread this series before I do. It’ll be equally torture and pleasure. Haha.
Captain Wentworth and Anne from Jane Austen’s Persuasion and (of course!) Lizzy and Darcy from Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. I think I’ll always remember reading P&P as a senior in high school and falling completely in love with the book. I read Persuasion on my own and then followed by watching both BBC adaptations of the book. Both left me a happy, silly mess, and I enjoyed how Persuasion explored the softer, waiting side of love.
Whew! I could go on and on, but seriously, I get all sorts of feelings when these characters are mentioned. Please leave your favorites below. I’m all about the swoony romance. 🙂
I always loved Jem and Tessa too… don’t remind me of that epilogue 😭😭😭
SoC couples are special too… and I love all of them… but I do have a special place in my heart for Jesper and Wylan.. they are just too cute 🥰🥰

I agree. All of the Six of Crows couples could make a favorite couples list.

Yrene was the true hero of Kingdom of Ash, agreed!! I love the way she dealt with Chaol’s father as well.

YES! She was my favorite in KoA. I think without her, the crew wouldn’t have won anything.
