February 2017 Wrap-Up!

This is a few days late but hey, at least I did it! Normally I just forget or get too caught up with actual life, and end up–well, not doing it at all, lol.

February was a decent month for me. I tried to get through some books by authors I went to see at the North Texas Teen Book Festival (post about that coming soon) this past weekend, and I think I did all right.

While I didn’t love every book I read this month, I was glad to have the chance to read ARCs of Gilded Cage and The Bone Witch, which released just yesterday, March 7.

Here’s a recap, with links to each of my reviews:

Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard – ★★★1/2
Truthwitch by Susan Dennard – ★★★
Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon – ★★★
The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon – ★★★★★
Gilded Cage by Vic James – ★★★1/2
The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco – ★★1/2

Now that I’ve read Glass Sword I hope to read King’s Cage soon even though book 4 won’t be out until next year, most likely. I loved The Sun Is Also a Star more than Everything, Everything, so I’m eager to read what else Yoon will write.

I was underwhelmed a bit by both Truthwitch and The Bone Witch, but I think TBW has great potential if the pacing of the story quickens in the next book. I loved the world-building the most in both of these stories, and I look forward to reading Windwitch, the sequel to Truthwitch.

As for Gilded Cage, I loved the concept, but some of the world-building left me very confused. I know the sequel, Tarnished City, is expected to be released in September of this year, according to Goodreads, meaning I’ll keep a close eye on this series until then.

What were some of your favorite reads in February? What do you look forward to in March? This month has a few of my highly anticipated releases, which I plan to highlight over the month on “Waiting on” Wednesday posts. Keep an eye out! 😉

If you haven’t already, please vote for Kestrel (and me!) to move onto Round 3 of Book Madness 2017! You can vote here and also enter for a chance to win cool bookish prizes! This week’s giveaways include some 2017 ARCs! Voting for Round 2 ends on March 10 at 11:59 CST!

100% agree with you on TBW.

My main read for February was Pachinko by Min Jin Lee. Incredible story, uncovers a lot of history that’s not often learnt about in schools or commonly reported on. It packs such an emotional punch and it’s so engaging.

I’m hoping that since most of the build up is done in TBW that the sequel will move more quickly with a lot more action. Will have to wait and see! 🙂
