Guys! This graphic novel is one of the most adorable things I’ve read in my life! I’m putting it right up there with Sarah’s Scribbles because it is just that relatable and hilarious.

This book is SO CUTE, I can’t even handle it! I was first introduced to Jen Wang’s work through In Real Life. It’s been a while since I’ve read a graphic novel, and this was the perfect one to make me reawaken my love for them. I read this graphic novel in one sitting, too, if that tells you anything. 😉
Oh my goodness, why have I just now discovered this lovely graphic novel? I’ve seen the single issue comics in comic book stores, and while it intrigued me, I never bothered to pick it up. But then I heard it was an East Asian-inspired, steampunk-esque, matriarchal fantasy world and hello, yes, I’m hooked.
So I decided to review volume 1 and 2 together. Truthfully, sometimes I struggle with writing a review of a single volume, especially since this is definitely a longer series. Sometimes I feel as if volume one just allows me to touch the surface of the world, while volume 2 drags me under. 😉
I’ve been a fan of Sarah’s work for a couple of years now. They never fail to make me laugh, and I relate to them so much. I loved her first book, Adulthood Is a Myth, so when I heard there was going to be a companion book, in a sense, I was thrilled. I also wasn’t disappointed.
Ah! I really, really, really enjoyed this.
Susan, Esther, and Daisy are roommates in college who eventually blossom into friends, though there are still things about each other they don’t know. While they try to finagle university life along with life in general, they’ll soon discover things might just become a little strange.
How have I not heard of this until now? Have I been living under a rock? Seems so! I picked up this from my local library and while it sat around for a few weeks before I finally picked it up, I’m glad to have read it!
This volume contains issues 1-5 of Rat Queens.
Oh, gosh, guys! I was not prepared for the new art but it doesn’t matter because the stories are still fantastic and the art is gorgeous!
Love, love, love, love, love it! There’s nothing not to love about this really. We’re back at Miss Qiunzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet’s Camp for Hardcore Lady-Types with Jo, April, Mal, Molly, and Ripley and I’m loving everything about it.
GUYS/GALS. Go get this book. From your library, from the bookstore, who gives a care, just go get it. (Well, don’t steal it. Legal things, guys!)

My middle school and high school love for manga transformed into a love for graphic novels and comic books. (And my husband decided he wanted to collect all of the Captain America comics, but who am I to complain?) I haven’t read as much as I would like but I do have a few favorites (hey, another blog post idea!) and I’m putting these two at the top, especially Lumberjanes!
